I live in Canada, probably from an international perception as being one of the best, most benign countries in the world for human rights. Yet Today we are having a reckoning with our past, with a situation that would under the definition of genocide meet the definition. In essence what happened at our Indian Residential Schools, is no different than what is happening in in parts of China now. And in Canada, our residential school system lasted until the late 1990's, so no that long ago.
Even today some of our aboriginal population live in what can only be described as third world conditions as a result of direct and indirect Federal government actions.
Let the nation with no troubled past throw the first stone.
And yes, the Ukrainian History is complicated, but it is also not unknown. The Ukrainians were sold a liberation and independent nation by the Nazis, but it was a bargain with the devil.
