I worked in a small business, a home builder, but I worked in the rental home side of the business. All of our software was in the cloud, and I had automated the rent collection process to the point where we only had about a dozen people paying in the office at the end of the month.
My boss would spend two weeks every month in the Sunny south USA, while we endured the harsh winter, and we were expected to be in the office at 8:00am and not leave until 5:00 pm daily just in case someone came into the office. This despite the fact that we had cell phones, and could access 100% of our information online. In the average month we maybe had 20 people come into the office and the average person was served what they needed in 5 minutes. In a highly commission driven income form of business, there was totally no need for this amount of office time. Whenever we left the office for showings or move-in/out inspections we were timed to ensure that we would be back sitting in the office as soon as possible.
There was no need for this office time, but the boss was not satisfied if he couldn’t see the whites of your eyes.
