Risk vs. Reward — I’m 51 and Quit My Job

I am writing my first article on Medium, and I hope that there will be many more to come.

It might be that I am suffering from a little bit of Mid-life crisis or it could be something else.

Who in their right mind quits a job in their 50's? There are so many stories about being laid off, victims of down-sizing & mergers that have lost their jobs at this age that struggle to secure new employment. Hell, some never work in their profession again; some never get back to work, period!

Indeed, there are a lot of arguments against quitting your job at any time, but at my age, ageism is one of the most significant deterrents. Some say that age now impacts the job search of those as young as 45. If companies don’t hire youth due to inexperience and won’t hire those over 45 due to cost, just who do they expect to hire? It’s a pretty small pool, no wonder there are so many complaints about the lack of talent and skills.

There are a lot of negative factors that will affect my future employment prospects. Mine are as follows:
