This is the problem, Since the 1980's the whole idea of trickle down economics is that you should be grateful for a job...any job...even if you can't live on the wage. Lets not forget that the greatest things in America were built when when the wealthiest in the country were taxed at over 70% of their income and it didn't stop them from investing and building more wealth. Now that we don't tax the wealthiest in society, we can't pay teachers and others what they should be paid, IMHO, a salary increase of 3x current wage rates in most places in America, and 5-6x in expensive counties such as SF Bay area is required to prevent things like are occurring in this article.

I live in Canada, and we pay our teachers a lot more, most MEd in my district are significantly over $100K after 5 years in, starting salaries are in the mid $80k range. My mother retired from teaching in the Mid 1980's and was making over 40K/year with a 1 year normal school diploma she got in the 1950's.
